The
Chilkat Valley Historical Society was formed in 1975 to "discover,
collect and provide for the preservation and display of any material
which may help to establish the historical background of Alaska, especially
of Haines and the adjoining geographical and ethnic areas."
The
Historical Society is closely allied with the Sheldon Museum and Cultural
Center. It underwrites
the weekly Sheldon Museum vignettes of local history talks on KHNS radio
station. It also sponsors
a Friday noon Brown Bag Lunch program throughout the winter.
A schedule of these weekly history programs may be found on our
Calendar page.
The
Chilkat Valley Historical Society meets quarterly and at that time presents
a program or speaker with an historic theme.
Our summer meeting is usually a picnic.
The Board of Directors meets monthly.
